Loading of export freight to Russian ports increased by 3.4% in January 2018

This year has already seen a steady growth in the transportation volumes of export freight through Russian ports.

Shipment volumes dispatched to seaports increased by 3.4% in January 2018 compared to January 2017 and amounted to 25.9 million tons due to an increase in the loaded amounts of coal, which was up by 5.1%, fertilisers, up by 5.9%, grain up by 25.3%, paper up by 8.1% and timber, which jumped by 19.8%.

Coal accounts for 44% of the total export freight turnover, with oil making up 29%, ferrous metals 9%, fertilizers 7% and grain 4%.

Loading of export freight to Russia’s ports in the country’s North-West as of the end of the year amounted to about 11.5 million tons, an increase of 14.8% against the level of January 2017.

About 6.3 million tons were shipped to Russia’s ports in the south, a decrease of 9.9%, while shipment volumes to the ports in the country’s Far East region were 8.1 million tons, up by 0.8%.
