Russian Railways' President Oleg Belozerov held a conference call from Moscow on 17 April 2017.

Company President Belozerov awarded the Badge of Honorary Railway Engineer posthumously to Etibar Manaf oglu Mamedov, who worked at the operational locomotive depot at the Volhovstroy October Traction Directorate.

Etibar Manaf oglu gave his life to rescue a married couple crossing the tracks at Tikhvin station in front of an approaching train, but sadly was unable to save himself and was injured fatally.

Etibar Manaf oglu's son, who works as an assistant locomotive driver at the same locomotive depot, accepted his father's award.

During the conference call, Belozerov also summed up the results of the Company's work during the 1st quarter of 2017.

Analysing production indicators, the Company President said that in January-March 2017, tariff freight turnover increased by 7.4%. Tariff freight turnover taking into account empty runs of private wagons was up by 7.1%.

More than 305 million tons of freight were loaded, 3.8% more than during the same period of the last year.

The Company President noted the work of the electronic trading platform "Freight Transportation", which began industrial operation on 24 March 2017.

At the moment, more than 300 consignors have already registered with the platform and placed almost 300 orders. The number of transportation enquiries currently stands at an average of 500 per day.

Passenger turnover on the railway infrastructure owned by Russian Railways in January-March 2017 declined by 0.5%. Long-distance passenger turnover decreased by 2.9%, while suburban passenger traffic increased by 5.4%.

Passenger numbers increased by 8.7%, with long-distance passengers down by 0.5%, but suburban passenger numbers were up by 9.6%.

"We are paying special attention to the work of the Moscow Central Ring (MCC)," said the President of Russian Railways. "Since the MCC was launched, it has transported more than 53 million passengers, and its popularity is still growing."

"On 11 April 2017," continued Belozerov, "another record was set, with more than 371,000 people being transported."

Oleg Belozerov also gave instructions to analyse the experience of the MCC's operation during the autumn-winter period and to submit proposals to increase this transport system's efficiency and reliability in the future.
