Passenger transport on the infrastructure owned by Russian Railways increased by 3.4% in 2019

According to the latest figures, the infrastructure of Russian Railways transported 1.2 billion passengers in 2019, 3.4% more than in 2018. Long-distance passenger numbers amounted to 116.5 million passengers, a decrease of 5.6%, while suburban passengers rose 3.2% to 1.08 billion.

Passenger turnover on the Russian Railways network in 2019 increased by 3.2% compared to the previous year and amounted to 133.5 billion pass-km. Long-distance passenger turnover was up 3.1% to 99.2 billion passenger-kilometres, an increase of 3.1%, while suburban traffic rose 3.4% to 34.2 billion pass-km.

According to the latest figures, about 99 million passengers were transported in December 2019, 3.2% more than in the same month in 2018. Suburban commuter passengers rose to 90.4 million, an increase 3.2%, while 8.6 million passengers travelled on long-distance services, up 4%.

Passenger turnover in December 2019 amounted to 9.4 billion passenger-kilometres, 3.7% more than in the same period of the previous year. Long-distance passenger turnover was 6.7 billion pass-km, an increase of 4.3%, while suburban traffic was up 2.4% to 2.7 billion pass-km.

The Moscow Central Ring (MCC) carried more than 148 million passengers in 2019, which is 14.5% more than in 2018. Since the MCC began operations, it has carried about 415 million passengers and set a record for the highest number of passengers since it was launched on 10 September 2016, when 580,112 passengers travelled on 25 December 2019.
